Tell us a bit about yourself:

I’m completing my 17th year as a School Psychologist. My career began in Springdale, and I’m currently working in Paradise/CBS with seven wonderful schools. I live in beautiful Clarke’s Beach with my husband and two dogs.

Why did you decide to become a School Psychologist?

I had considered becoming a psychologist since high school. When in university I was en route to becoming a school counsellor, and a few separate people along my journey suggested that I become a school psychologist. Never underestimate the power your words can have on another person’s life trajectory! Those brief conversations truly helped shape my decisions from that point on.

What do you love about being a School Psychologist?

Kinderstart!

Ok but in all seriousness, I love the relationships that are built with students, colleagues, and parents, as we work together to make things a little bit better for everyone involved.

(That and Kinderstart.)

A resource you love and want to share:

I adore “Hey Warrior” from Hey Sigmund (www.heysigmund.com). It’s a beautiful resource for teaching children (or adults!) about their bodies’ sympathetic nervous response to stress, and how to “befriend” their amygdala in order to initiate calm. I really love practical resources like this that help children name and reframe their struggles.

A favourite quote/affirmation/mantra/saying:

Ethics over optics.
