Meet Jaclyn

Jaclyn Browne (Communications & Administrative Duties)

Tell us a bit about yourself:

Hello everyone!☀️😎🌻 I am a Co-Communications member on our newly formed Special Interest Council (SIC) for School Psychologists, which I am so thrilled to be a part of! Currently I am working in the Avalon East area of NLESD.  I have experience working in Labrador and in my hometown area (Burin Peninsula).

I love getting outside as much as possible, so I’m hoping this summer is filled with lots of sunshine and hiking with my friends and family.  I also enjoy road trips and traveling (already have a few trips planned). Also on the top of my list are reading, listening to podcasts and my favorite hobby of all…spending too much money on clothes :)

Why did you decide to become a School Psychologist?

I have to say, I was pretty inspired by two of my School Psychologist Aunts (Sharon and Florence) to pursue the field of school psychology myself. I had a big interest in psychology but also love working in the setting of education, so it was a perfect fit for me.

What do you love about being a School Psychologist?

We get to connect with so many people - students, parents, educators and the community. I find it so rewarding to work with people in different capacities and help support them. I also love that everyday is genuinely so different. It is no joke when I say I learn something new every single day. The school psych community also “fills my cup”...I feel really fortunate to work with such amazing and inspiring colleagues.

A resource you love and want to share:

I do a lot of driving so I have been obsessed with audiobooks and podcasts. I have really been enjoying “The testing psychologist” podcast and I love their online Facebook group with members from all over Canada and the US. I have learned a great deal from other psychologists' posts and the conversations they generate. I also have a personal interest in all things ADHD so you can often find me reading on the topic. I recently finished “A Radical Guide for Women with ADHD” by Sari Solden and Michelle Frank.

A favorite quote/affirmation/mantra/saying:

“When you can’t find the sunshine… be the sunshine”☀️
