Meet Kiah
Kiah Gill (Co-Treasurer / Membership Duties)
Tell us a bit about yourself:
Hey everyone! I am in the role of co-membership/co-treasurer. I look forward to working with all of our wonderful provincial psychologists who are members of this SIC. I work out of Elwood Regional High School in Deer Lake. Currently, I work with 5 schools in the area. I live in Corner Brook with my husband Trevor, my 2 year old daughter Eloise, and two cats (a 15 year old named Oliver and a 5 year old named Frankie). Life has been hectic lately but in my own time I enjoy walking, yoga, and a cold drink outside on a warm day.
Why did you decide to become a School Psychologist?
Being the daughter of a teacher/principal my goal was always to work within the education system. My mother introduced me to the school psychologist job when I was in elementary school. Every job I have had in my life has been working with children. I find the opportunity to work with students individually and to then come together as a part of a team with the sole intention to support students extremely rewarding.
What do you love about being a School Psychologist?
I feel like I am very fortunate to be able to spend time with students individually and get to know at least a piece of who they are. I enjoy working with K-12 schools as well as all of the schools located in one community because I get to watch and be a part of the students’ entire schooling experience. I also love the challenge of assessment and interpretation.
